Jury Duty V & New Mexico True Holiday Gift Guide
I got called for jury duty Tuesday, but woke up at midnight sick as a dog. I called the phone number provided at 8 am and explained to a nice person I was sick. Then went back to bed. I did not get called for Wednesday, so it gave me time to recover. Thank goodness!
But I did have time to view the New Mexico True Holiday Gift Guide. Do you know there is not a single book in it? Besides UNM Press and Museum of New Mexico Press there are many, made in New Mexico presses. True couldn’t include one single book. Now it may be argued that they can’t or won’t read – that may explain it.
New Mexico True may offer in their better-than-everyone response that no books are printed in New Mexico. That would be wrong because there are printers in New Mexico and we have had some of our books printed in New Mexico. As for larger books, New Mexico True may not know that there is no bindery in New Mexico so even if they are printed – at double the cost – the books have to be sent out of state to bind, increasing the price even more. Same with New Mexico Magazine – not printed or bound in New Mexico. Does New Mexico True do that magazine? I guess they don’t think New Mexico is good enough to do the magazine.
Books are a vital part of New Mexico and all I can say – it is your tax dollars at work! Bah Humbug!
