Write Your Own Story-Genealogy Weekend & Eggs/Books in Your Basket

Spring is great time to clear our desks and our heads!
National Write Your Own Story Day
March 14, is National Write Your Own Story Day. I am a believer in telling your story and giving it to kids, grandkids, and friends. HOWEVER, unless you are famous or have a really mind-blowing story, it will not sell.
It sounds harsh but memoirs, that is what they are, are something we don’t publish because they are a poor seller and we do have a business. If you can just think about it, why does a person in New York, LA, Mexico, or Miami want to read about your life?
Your life, unless you are really well known, doesn’t have an impact on others’ lives and they won’t spend the money to get your book. Stores won’t carry your book. Why should they carry a book about a person in Albuquerque if they are in New Orleans?
But if you are doing a talk, a radio or TV interview or in the paper, the situation might change. Have a FEW books printed if you self-publish and get a table at a local craft fair and see how they sell. Remember, your family really needs and wants to know about you – especially your early years.
Make sure you record you life and give to those who want it. When you are gone it is too late!
Buy A Book For A Basket!
Treasure House Books & Gifts in Old Town, Albuquerque, has a great promotion (if I do say so myself!). We have taken a few of our books and greatly reduced them so you will be encouraged to put a book in an Easter basket.
Maybe cut down on the candy a bit and give something that will last when after the basket is empty. Books do not make a sugar high!
The books we have featured:
Ol’ Jimmy Dollar - $13 from $25!
Don’t Touch This Book - $10 from $17!
The Pronghorned Cantaloupe - $12 from $18!
Three Dog Night - $10 from $15!
Shoes For the Santo Niño - $12 from $20!
When you are doing your spring purchasing, drop by Treasure House and give a book. It is a treasure that will last a longtime. These prices are so good, maybe you want to get a few for summer reading!
National Genealogy Weekend
Genealogy is a good thing. My husband and mother do a ton of genealogy so I don’t have to do it. Knowing where you come from is often surprising. I enjoy the genealogy TV show – especially “Who Do You Think You Are?”
The best genealogist I know is Henrietta Martinez Christmas. Anyone with Christmas in their name you have to love! Henrietta makes time for people and she has experience as well as creds in genealogy.
Take a look at her and Paul Rhetts’ book on genealogy as well as her other books. Andrés Armijo also has a couple of great books on New Mexico genealogy.
