Voting – A Secret Ballot?

Wednesday, the White House’s Election Commission asked all Governors and Secretaries of State to furnish the election/voting data from last year’s election and previous year’s too – up to 2006. They wanted to know how you voted, party, name, address, social security number and more. What the HELL? 41 states now say they won't give it.

It is wanted because Donald thinks there are millions of illegal voters and how could he have possibly lost the popular vote? He was not voted for by millions, because they didn’t want to vote for a deranged person who tweets every minute.

I thought that voting was a right and SECRET! Kris Kobach (Vice Chair of the Committee) has asked for the information and the Committee is chaired by VP Pence. His own Indiana refused to furnish data as did New Mexico. In fact, both Republicans and Democrats have refused.

Is this stupid or what? More news organizations need to cover this because it is dangerous.

July Is National Independent Retailer Month

Bookstores are our life-blood. We love them. Yes, we provide books to national chain stores. Yes, I do go to large chains – you can’t help it! I am proud I food shop at Walmart because they have good prices – but not always the best and they have the newest products. I love new things! But the local stores, no matter what they sell, are fundamental! If we didn’t have them we would all buy at Walmart and that would not be good. We are not all the same.

And that goes for Amazon too. Yes, they are a great 24/7 book catalog. And yes, I have ordered from Amazon – usually rare, stupid, and unknown titles. I get New Mexico books in New Mexico stores! I am proud of it!

Patronize independent stores now and at the holidays. They have fun and unusual stuff and make us all different. Chains are nice but this country was built on local stores.

Congrats on the NMBA Book Design Contest & More

The New Mexico Book Association’s Winner and Finalists for the Southwest Design Award were announced last evening. We were blessed to have two books honored:

Don Bullis’ -
New Mexico Historical Encyclopedia &
Ross Van Dusen’s -
Lyle Got Stuck In A Tree.

We knew these were good books but to have the honor is priceless! Another big winner was UNM Press. It is especially sad because a number of UNM Press staff that worked on the books honored were terminated/fired/forced to retire and one staffer was targeted to fire by the UNM Associate Provost but saved. I guess they don’t understand award since the basketball and football teams don’t get many!
