Rez Dogs

NM-Bucket-List-cover-sm

There is a movement in New Mexico for the 60 day Legislative Session to have a designated “official dog.” The dog is the Rez Dog. If you have gone to a reservation anywhere you see Rez Dogs.

Rez Dogs are a fact of life in New Mexico and other states as well. This would be an effort to say New Mexico is unique, not saying negative things about reservations, and celebrate the Native American culture and way of life.

Colorado has Rescue Dogs (and cats) as the official dog. The Chesapeake Bay Retriever is the official dog in Maryland. The dog has a proud and long history in Maryland. Our Rez Dogs would be equal to the Retriever. Why recognize a dog that doesn’t have meaning to New Mexico. I love Poodles, Beagles, and Shar Peis but they have nothing to do with New Mexico.

After you get over the idea of the proposal, you gotta say, it makes sense. It is so New Mexico! And no one else would dare have it!

Congrats to the Cumbres & Toltec RR

The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad is the winner in the USA Today Reader’s Choice Award for best railroad in the United States. Well deserved.

I recently went on the railroad – the lunch trip for a half-day. I got on train in Chama, New Mexico, and saw the beautiful scenery in Northern New Mexico and had a great lunch. It rained on and off but that didn’t matter.

Trains are a throwback to a time when travel wasn’t as hectic. Travel was more than getting to a place fast. It was enjoyment, seeing new places, interacting with people, and just having a good time.

The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad is just one of the gems of New Mexico.

A True Success Story

Dan-Landon-Sigi

Our friends, the Turners, from the East Coast, came to New Mexico with their grandkids. In preparation, they got the Santa Fe and New Mexico Bucket List books. They had all kinds of insights and suggestions. The books helped make their trip fun and memorable.

We ended their trip at County Line in Albuquerque, with great food and the usual, great, New Mexico sunset.

State Fair Is On My Bucket List Or Should We Say EXPO?

State Fair will be here momentarily. It always has a good rainstorm and we like that! State Fair is also a good place to find out about other things to put on your bucket list!

Zozobra Is Coming, Zozobra Is Coming!

To celebrate Zozobra coming to Santa Fe, I have featured it today. That is a chance for you to burn all your woes – parking tickets, bad report cards, IRS letters (make a copy first!), and divorce papers (maybe that isn’t so bad?). El Kookooee also does the same thing in the South Valley of Albuquerque but he doesn’t have the same public relations firm!

Gotta Get A Pot

When you visit New Mexico you have to get a REAL Native American pot. Not a Mexican pot or a Chinese pot pretending to be Native American. Part of the experience is to see a breathtaking place like Acoma Sky City or talk to the artist. Here is what I said in the Basic New Mexico Bucket List book.
