Little Free Library in Los Ranchos

The Village of Los Ranchos Gets its First Little Free Library

blogEntryTopper
Los Ranchos now has a Little Free Library! I have been trying for a long time, to get one in Los Ranchos. I was thinking that one in the neighborhood would be good. Some of those people actually read. But they may sue me too!

So, with the help of Carla Aragon, her husband and Mayor Larry Abraham, it will go near the field next to the Los Ranchos Village Hall on Rio Grande Blvd. The container is an old newspaper box – metal, and will withstand weather. It was painted by artist and bookseller Elaine Lewis who is the sister of Carla’s husband Allen. Allen is a member of the Los Ranchos Board of Trustees who blessed having the Little Free Library.

The Little Free Library will be set up by Kelly Ward, the Los Ranchos Village Administrator. And the best part, most of the books in the box were furnished by the NM Book Co-op through the NM & AZ Book Awards and LPD Press/Rio Grande Books. Carla Aragon, who is an author in her own right besides being a TV personality, has a copy of her children’s book - Dance of the Eggshells – in the box. Mayor Abraham also donated books including a much loved Tony Hillerman. There are books for all tastes in reading – kids, cookbooks, poetry, romance, mysteries, histories, biographies, and Balloon Fiesta.

But good news! A second Little Free Library is going on 4
th Street near the Fire Department is the future.

The motto for Little Free Libraries is “Take a book, return a book.” We hope everyone will check out the books changing all the time. Kids love it!
