Crook with hand in money pot

Public Defenders office hires crook and puts him near the money pot!

Toby Martinez
Toby Martinez was one of the infamous criminals that stole from New Mexico taxpayers in the Courthouse Scandal. He stole over $2M and was convicted and went to jail. Now he is back and works for the public defender’s office.
Now, I am not against second chances but this puts the crime right in your face. Martinez is supposed to give ¼ of his salary back as restitution and at that rate, at little more than $10,000 a year, will take more years than Martinez is going to live to pay back the money he stole.
I am all for second chances but that seems a little over the edge. Martinez will have contact with his old buds and fellow convicts. He doesn’t have use of any money but he needed to get a job somewhere else and have a clean slate.
I guess a background check for State jobs is not important?
